The La Liga match between Granada and Athletic Bilbao, temporarily suspended due to the tragic death of a fan at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes, will resume on Monday.
Sunday’s match was suspended after 17 minutes due to a medical emergency in the stands, with both clubs later confirming that a Granada fan has sadly passed away.
Granada expressed its thoughts in a statement: “Our sincerest condolences go out to the family, friends and the entire Granada family.”
Bilbao added: “As an athletic club, we express our deepest condolences and condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.”
Granada sporting director Alfredo Garcia Amado revealed after the game that the fan suffered cardiac depression.
Inaki Williams’ header gave Bilbao a 1-0 lead six minutes before play was suspended.
Both clubs have announced that fans will be able to use their original tickets to attend Sunday’s game and will receive refunds if they are unable to attend the game.
According to the Spanish Football Federation, the match will resume in the 17th minute on Monday at 9 p.m. ET (3 p.m. ET).
Elsewhere on Sunday, Girona continued their stunning form with a 4-2 away victory over Barcelona and now sit two points clear of Real Madrid. Real Madrid drew 1-1 away with Real Betis on Saturday, temporarily ranking first in La Liga.
Girona have lost just once in 16 league games this season in Europe’s biggest surprise performance.

Barcelona are in fourth place after losing to Girona, seven points behind Girona but level with Atletico Madrid.
